Governor Brad Little Left Looking Like A Loser After Vetoing Property Tax Relief Bill — Weak Attempt To Spin Failure As “Victory” Flops On Twitter
Swing, and a miss…
(Boise, Idaho) — On March 27th, 2023, Governor Brad Little Vetoed HB 292, which was designed to give Idahoans over $200 million in property tax relief in 2023 alone.
Shortly afterwards while standing in front of a retina searing blue and white background, Gov. Little made a video to explain why he decided to veto the bill.
Let’s get property tax relief done right. Read my full statement here: https://t.co/wOwpkXsCCe pic.twitter.com/piAOhh8k7u

Governor Little cited the various “piggybacks” that had been placed into the bill as one of the reasons he decided to veto it. He also lamented that “the teachers” need both School District Levy Dates (March & August), so they can keep asking for money, over and over, in the hopes that voter turnout will be so low these levies will have a shot at passing.
It is true that the bill does cover a lot of ground. According to the text of the bill HB292:
-
Establishes provisions regarding the School District Facilities Fund
-
Revises provisions regarding dates on which school levy and bond elections may be held
-
Provides for the transfer of certain excess cash balance moneys for the purpose of property tax relief
-
Establishes provisions regarding the Tax Relief Fund
-
Revises provisions regarding eligibility for the Property Tax Reduction Program
-
Establishes provisions regarding Homeowner Property Tax Relief
-
Provides requirements for property tax notices
-
Provides for transfers from the Idaho Tax Rebate Fund to the Homeowner Property Tax Relief Account and the School District Facilities Fund
-
Revises provisions regarding the distribution of certain sales taxes
-
Provides for the distribution of sales tax revenues
-
Appropriates moneys and provides for a one-time cash transfer from the General Fund to the Homeowner Property Tax Relief Account
Whew! It’s almost as Jam-packed as Governor Little’s “Idaho Launch” Corporate Welfare Program!
Now the governor is paying the price for breaching the 1 bill 1 topic rule. Why do we have complex legislation? Because he set the standard with HB 1. Oops…. https://t.co/ZMk1x3PBKI

After Brad’s veto, the bill went back to the House, where it was passed again, with a veto-override. Not one line of the bill’s text was changed.

After being overridden, Governor Little (probably) told his Press Secretary Madison Hardy to try to spin this situation as a “victory” online.
I asked the Legislature to deliver a simple property tax relief solution, not one intermingled with a hodgepodge of policy items attached to it. The Legislature addressed my concerns, and we got property tax relief DONE RIGHT.

“The Legislature addressed my concerns, and we got property tax relief DONE RIGHT,” the Governor said.
Again, we want to stress that there were no amendments. Nothing in the bill changed between the time the Governor vetoed, and when the House voted to override his veto.

NOTHING WAS ADDRESSED. LMAOOOO!!!!
Um, Brad, you just got your butt handed to you. You lost. You tried to stop property tax relief so you could help out your buddies in Ed Inc. You failed. Stop pretending like you did something useful. #idpol #Idleg https://t.co/1nQBzyitKe

Gov. Brad Little ***VETOED*** this bill, because his masters at the teacher's unions told him to. Now that the Legislature grew a spine and OVERRODE his veto, he's taking credit for the bill!!! You can't make this stuff up!!! https://t.co/d6JQPa12DC

Haha, that's one way to spin a veto override where the only people who voted with you were the Democrats. https://t.co/5u6wrw3X1d

When you see a post has more comments than likes? That’s what’cha call a “Ratio” sonny boy.
If every single tweet you publish has a massive Ratio, it’s time to call it quits.
Honestly, Brad Little should resign. We all know what’s coming anyway…

We deserve a better class of criminal to be the Governor of Idaho.
"I asked the Legislature to deliver a simple property tax relief solution. They did. I VETOED IT. They overturned my VETO. I am now taking credit for a property tax relief solution." https://t.co/PI1Wu36D5R

Outright lie. You only signed it after it had enough votes to override your veto. https://t.co/F2OIUrOgsf

Governor Brad Liberal is now holding up an anti-Genital Mutilation Bill that overwhelmingly passed both the House and Senate already. He is reportedly having his office assistants man the phones and keep a tally of how many calls they have received in favor, or against.
You should immediately stop what you’re doing, and call him RIGHT NOW, and tell him to stop playing games with our children’s future and SIGN HB71!
