The Battle For Meridian Library: Concerned Citizens Petition To Dissolve Library District And Re-Build — WITHOUT Pornography For Tweens

When the beating of your heart echoes the beating of the drums…

In Meridian, Idaho a well-organized group called the Concerned Citizens of Meridian filed a petition with the county commissioners in order to dissolve and rebuild their library district. In short: they’re going to war against groomers.

The Meridian Library District, like many others around Idaho and around the nation, have been systematically denying the existence of pornography and sexually explicit materials in children’s books at the library.

They have gaslit parents for years now about the content of the books in the adolescent section, and have refused to pull a single book from circulation due to a “book challenge,” much like the Community Library Network in Kootenai County.

Libraries frequently take half-measures with these kinds of issues, especially around election time in an effort to lull people back to sleep, when they should instead be “Driving the money changers from the Temple.”

Frustrated with the un-responsiveness from the library board, these citizens are seeking to dissolve the library, and re-form it, without the smut in the children’s section. This would be done by putting an initiative on the ballot, allowing citizens to choose whether to keep the library as it is, or to abolish and rebuild.

Michael Hon, a spokesperson for the Concerned Citizens of Meridian addressed the Ada County Commissioners, dispelling the myths around what these citizens are asking for.

Essentially, what Hon is asking for is for the books to come with a rating system, just like they do for movies. He noted that any minor can check out any movie available at the library, regardless of what it’s rated, so an 8 year old could check out an R-rated movie without issue.

In an e-mail press release on March 15th, the Concerned Citizens of Idaho said:

“The bottom line is this. Are there sexually explicit materials physically and freely accessible to children in the Meridian Library at this time? Despite direct denials from the library board that it isn’t, the answer is YES!”

“Do we want our children to have access to these materials without parental knowledge and consent? No.”

The chairwoman of the Library Board, Megan Larsen, went on to berate the concerned citizens accusing them of trying to control “who people vote for” and choose “what people are allowed to read.”

There can be no compromise on this issue, and the librarians have been, and continue to be, completely un-willing to back down from their position which is de-facto: “children should have unfettered access to porn.”

This is why the abolition of the Meridian Library has become necessary. Something that was not controversial even 5 years ago, the statement “kids shouldn’t have access to porn,” has become the hill that these people are choosing to die on.

Nobody likes porn. Feminists think porn is exploitative of women. Christians think it’s immoral. Human rights activists have noted that pornography can lead to human trafficking and exploitation. Scientists have discovered that it can change your neural pathways, and even change how you vote.

But then again, maybe that’s precisely why these people want these books in our libraries. Because they are, in fact, GROOMING our children.
